Day 15 of OMD Challenge- Heart Nail Art!

hearts-manicure

I can’t believe we are half-way through the July Nail Art Challenge!  It’s a lot of work to consistently put out original nail art designs every day- but so worth it, right?  Day 15 is all about HEARTS and I have a cute purple design for you today!

I started with two coats of Butter London Scoundrel which is a nice dusky purple.  A few of my nails I topped with two coats of an OPI glitter called Lights of Emerald City.  Since that OPI glitter is white I decided to make some white hearts on my other nails to pull the design together.  FOR THE HEARTS: I started with my Sally Hansen Nail Art Pen in black.  I am loving this pen and just ordered two silver ones (do I see a giveaway in Crafty’s future? Yes, yes I do!)  I drew the hearts on with the black pen and then dotted inside the hearts with NYC white nail polish. Since I used my skinniest/smallest dotting tool it was easy to position the white inside the black heart shapes.  I like the way that they have a nice black outline around them now.

Do any of you guys have a white textured polish, like maybe OPI Solitaire?  If you use that to fill in the black heart outline then I bet they’d look like cute little PUFFY HEARTS!  Wish I had a white textured polish like that!

Do you use nail art pens?  They’re handy to have!  Mine is from Sally Hansen but I wonder how the other brands work….

Sparklin Kiss

Valentine’s Day kinda snuck up on me this year!  My boyfriend and I were joking yesterday that we should just re-wrap a few of the Christmas gifts we gave eachother!  Tres romantique, non?  LOL!  Actually, I’m getting over a crazy cold that really knocked me for a loop…. so I haven’t spent anytime planning our v-day, present-buying, or even painting my nails.  So as a last-ditch effort I whipped together a cute mani to get me in the valentine’s mood.

I used Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in Commander in Chic as my base color.  Then I topped it off with one coat of Maybelline Express Finish in Sparklin Kiss.  The pink hearts in this topcoat are so cute and I love the way they coordinate with the brownish base color.  It sorta reminds me of a box of chocolates!commander_in_chic

I hope everyone has a wonderful Valentine’s Day 2013!

Easy Valentine’s Day Nails

vday_stickers

I had the idea to put regular stickers on my nails since it sounded like a super-easy way to get a cute effect for Valentine’s Day.  So I started rummaging through my sticker box (poke fun if you want, but I love my sticker box)!  It’s the same one I’ve had since I was a kid and I’ve amassed quite a collection.  My faves include my original E.T. stickers from when the movie first came out… and my cute Rainbow Brite stickers from the 80’s!  I have a lot of heart stickers too so I decided on these red foil hearts.  Then I picked a girly pink polish and started painting!

I used 3 coats of Sephora by OPI I’m Wired and then placed the sticker on my ring finger.  I didn’t know if the Seche Vite topcoat would bead up on the foil sticker or not- so I used a thin coat of Orly Bonder on my ring finger to create a nice sticky surface on top of the heart. Then I applied my Seche to lock it all down.

These Valentine’s Day themed nails are so quick and easy!  You could put more stickers on if you want, but after I placed the one down I felt like it would be enough.  <I’ve noticed that if I’ve ever ignored my instincts in the past… that I’ve gone on to muff up the manicure.>  So always trust your gut and have some fun with your stickers!
