Happy Halloween!

Here’s a gallery of all the halloween manicures that I did for 2013!

I still haven’t tried free-hand painting flying bats.  And I sorta wanted to do some vampire fangs dripping with blood.  I guess there’s always next year!

Are you dressing up for halloween this year?  Or do you not celebrate?

Sugar Spun Mummies: my guest post!

It’s getting close to halloween and there’s no shortage of halloween nail art in wordpress land!  Lacquered by BlueVanilla blog is running a ten day halloween nail art extravaganza filled with spooky designs and guest posts.  They asked me to share one of my halloween manicures with them, and I was more than happy to oblige.  I did some super fun sugar spun mummy nails and I just love how they came out!  Be sure to click on over to see my guest post on Lacquered by BlueVanilla right here!

Here’s a sneak peak of my nails…

Halloween nail art contest!

Julie from Short & Sweet in Texas is hosting a fb nail art contest for halloween!   The contest goes til Oct 16th and the winner gets a $20 Born Pretty Store gift card!  You should join in!  Here’s all the info! spider_ruffle_nails

For this nail art I hand-painted spiders and webs on 4 fingers using a skinny nail art brush.  On the other fingers I used the RUFFLE technique (see Chalkboard Nails’ dandy ruffle tutorial here) using the largest dotting tool I could find.  Believe me, you’ll want to make big dots or you’ll be sitting there forever dotting and dotting until your mind slips away into halloween madness.  I counted my little dots and there’s 164 dots on one hand.  So 328 altogether!  The last time I did ruffles I used a bigger dotting tool and it seemed to go much quicker, so save yourself the hassle and make BIG DOTS!

Here’s the 4 polishes I used for this halloween spider manicure:

Art Orange  AVON

Liquid Leather China Glaze

Lickety-Split Lime Sally Hansen

I’m a Belieber Nicole by OPI

Make sure to vote for your fave on the Short & Sweet in Texas facebook page.  The pic with the most LIKES wins the prize!  Wish me luck in the contest!

October NAIL Linkup

Hey ladies and gents!  (What? A blogger can always hope!)  Nail Art Ideas Linkup is still going strong!  This October Eeeek! Nail Polish!, Brijit’s Digits and Craftynail are bringing you 5 themes instead of the usual 4.  You won’t run out of ideas for nail art this month!  Here’s what’s going on…

oct-nail-themes

We’ve simplified things a bit for October.  We won’t be utilizing the VOTING tool any longer… so no more crowning a NAIL GENIUS each week.  Sure, we all voted on a bunch of amazing manis, and it was so much fun while it lasted, but we don’t want you to feel like this is a competition or anything!  Just a great way to share our designs with each other!  Plus, simpler is better, don’t you think?  With that in mind, our themes will not close at the end of each week either.  You may remember that you previously needed to submit your nail art within a 7 day period or the linkz would close.  Well, not anymore!  All 5 inlinkz will be open all month.  This way you have flexibility with your submissions.  The dates for each week are now simply suggested dates- so go ahead and post when you can.  Easy, right?

Did you know that October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month?  That brings us to the first NAIL theme of October!  Don’t put those pink nail polishes away for the winter just yet- Breast Cancer Awareness week starts tomorrow.  That’s right, the October NAIL Linkup starts tomorrow! (hashtag #naillinkup)  Here are the links:

30th Sept – 6th Oct – Breast Cancer Awareness :
7th-13th Oct – Autumn Trees :
14th-20th Oct – Things That Go Bump in the Night :
21st-27th Oct – Treats and Sweets :
