STAMPING- OPI Chevron for #NAILLINKUP

stamped OPI chevron

This is my first Nail Art Ideas Linkup design for the month of March.  I’m excited for the themes we have this month!  Especially AQUA for some reason . 😀

The theme for week 1 is STAMPING so I reachedbm 423 plate for my new Bundle Monster set!  I finally got the Create Your Own 2013 set that I’ve been lusting after.  I’m so excited to use them all!  For this easy chevron I used plate BM-423.

I’ve never done a traditional chevron using little pieces of zig zaggy tape or anything.  I’ve always felt like if I tried I would screw it up!  Me and tape don’t always get along.  So using a stamping plate instead was the perfect solution for me! I generally have good luck with stamping.

Besides my bundle monster plate, I used three different OPIs for this manicure. I like how the different colors coordinate and clash all at the same time for a cool 80’s vibe.  Here’s what I’m wearing:

Day 10 of OMD Challenge- Magnetic Nails

Hey everyone!  For DAY 10/METALLIC  of the Oh Mon Dieu! Challenge I thought I’d try some fun stuff with magnetic nail polishes.  I have a rather good selection of magnetic polishes to choose from.  I like to collect them because they’re a fun way to get a cool nail design without having to whip out special tools or techniques.

This mani is something new and different for me- I used two different magnetic polishes!  I painted one half of my nails with a green Sinful Colors called Sinfully Magnetic Force Field and used the snakeskin magnet that came with it.  Coolest magnet ever!  I love the snakeskin effect.  Then I painted the other half of my nails with a gorgeous blurple by L.A. Colors Magnetic called Electrostatic.  The la girl magnet is hidden in the cap and it wasn’t as impressive as the other brand’s.  This one created kitty-corner vertical stripes which aren’t that prominent -but the delicious purple color makes up for it. la_girl_magnetic_electrostatic

I like this double-magnetic look…and they dried fast too!  BONUS!

Let’s see what the other girls came up with for today’s theme…..

Read My Palm!

palmistry_nails

I’m psyched that the theme for today’s 30 Day Challenge is GREEN!  Green is probably my favorite color for nails- and the shade I’m wearing today is just my style.  It’s called Sephora by OPIRead My Palm  and it’s a sage colored cream.  I pulled some inspiration from the name of the polish and came up with this idea:  Palmistry Nail Art!  I can paint my nails to look the lines on the palm of my hand.  Sure, why not paint part of my hand onto another part of my hand?  Sounds logical.  LOLread_my_palm

I started with two coats of Read My Palm.  Then I used my sephora nail art brush and some black nail polish to mimic my heart, head, fate and health lines.  I used my own palm as a reference, so this mani is just as unique as me!  The awesome thing about this design is that I didn’t need to make the lines perfect since neither are the lines on my hand.  I also painted a star on my ring finger and a cross on my index since I found some prominent markings on my mounds. Lol hmmm, interesting!  One means I’ll come across a lot of money and I’ll excel in the arts, and the other means an affectionate relationship will alter me and I’ll marry for love.  😀

WHAT ARE THE MAIN LINES ON OUR PALMS?  Here’s a handy dandy sketch I made to help you identify your lines!  Like her fuchsia painted nails?

RIGHT OR LEFT PALM?  Which hand are you supposed to analyze when reading your palm?  There’s varying opinions on this.  Some say that if you are right-handed, then you should read your right hand… and lefties should read their left hands.  On the other hand, I’ve heard that an analysis of your dominant hand represents the situation you were born into.  Then as you get older you should read your non-dominant hand which represents the circumstances that you find yourself in as you age and progress in life.  I went with the latter since that seems to make sense to me.

WHAT DO THE LINES MEAN?  Here’s a really good site that discusses all the different lines in detail: Psychic Library/Palmistry Room. If you have love on the brain and you’re interested in marriage lines then here’s a neat site for you: ofesite.com.

Hope you enjoyed my palm reader nails!  They were fun to work on!

Have you learned anything about yourself from palm reading?

My Green Mystery

Orly Green With Envy

This is one of my absolute favorite polishes of all time!  I’ve had this Orly bottle for a while and the sticker on the bottom is ripped off.  That means I don’t know what the shade is called!  After much web research I found that it could be Green with Envy.  A lot of other swatches of this color look teal, so I wasn’t quite sure.  Mine is a beautiful green shade with a touch of aqua.  I would describe it as a deep dark sea foam green.  And it’s the perfect shade for St. Patrick’s Day.

The craftynail in me originally planned to do some purple nail art on top of this.  But after applying 4 coats of this green Orly (it’s a jelly so it needed several coats) I realized that it’s just perfect as is!  I’ve got no craftiness for you today, but maybe you can revel in this jelly beauty with me.  Orly has Green with Envy listed online as part of their ‘permanent collection’ so it shouldn’t be hard to find if you are interested.

Sinfully Magnetic Snakeskin Review

sinfully magnetic force field

I have been eyeing this magentic polish in Rite Aid for about a month now!  I already have a few magnetic polishes in my stash, but this snakeskin effect is way different than anything I own.   Yesterday the display was really picked through so I finally broke down and bought a bottle before I missed my chance!   This gorgeous green shade is called Force Field.  I totally messed up the first mani I did… so here’s some tips that I learned:

  • apply a basecoat and then one thin coat of the magnetic polish
  • wait for that first coat of color to dry
  • apply a healthy second coat and place the magnet over the nail
  • the magnet may not reach all areas of your nail, but DO NOT rotate your finger from side to side to get better magnetic coverage- this will just mess up the crispness of the design
  • wait for the magnetized second coat to dry before putting a topcoat on or else you’ll ruin the cool snakeskin effect

Sinful Colors Snakeskin Magnetic

The manufacturers website says that the Sinfully Magnetic Snakeskin collection is available exclusively at Rite Aid. I picked up my bottle for $4.99.  I bet the magnet that came with it will work awesome with other brands of magnetic polish too (some of the other magnets I own are puny and don’t even cover the length of your nail).  Plus, this one has a nailguard to prevent you from accidentally smushing your wet nail into the magnet.

I give this polish 5 stars 🙂 Here’s a close-up…

I Need a Refresh-Mint

11/23/12–HERE’S A LITTLE UPDATE ON THIS POLISH: This megalast polish lasted forever!  I got a small chip on the 8th day, so I removed the polish on the 9th day I was super-impressed with it’s longevity.  This stuff rocks!! here’s my original post:

11/15/12– Isn’t this a cute name for a polish?  “I Need a Refresh-Mint” is part of the megalast line from wet n wild.   I was a little perplexed when I found it at the store- I couldn’t figure out why they named it mint-anything…. it really looked light blue to me under the fluorescents.  Blue or green?  Who knows, but it is sorta refreshing 🙂

indoors it looks greenish

I stamped a Konad M35 bubble design on the tips to jazz it up a little bit!  I used an old AVON color called Foil Aluminum for my stamping.  I’m sure that Konad special polish would’ve stuck better to the surface of the nail….. but a girl can go crazy buying a zillion shades of special stamping polish!  I told myself that I was only allowed to buy the basic colors for stamping- black and white.  So for some silver bling… I just dug through my stash to find something opaque that might work- I think this avon color did the trick.

with flash it looks blue-ish!

Getting back to the wet n wild megalast- this line has what they call a ‘manicurve pro brush‘.  Because the brush was wide- I didn’t have to do multiple strokes to cover my nail.  I got a clean paint line along the base and edge of the nail without having to fuss too much.  On the flipside, I’m not sure if ladies with very petite nail beds would like this broad brush…it may accidentally bump into the cuticles?  But nothing about me is very petite … so I’m a fan of the manicurve!
