Pastel Peacock Nail Art using OPI Sheer Tints

Here’s another great way to use your OPI Sheer Tints…

collage_Fotor

Start with a white or light neutral base color.  Then do some nail stamping over top.   When that’s dry, light sweep some OPI Sheer Tints over top of your stamps to get this awesome effect!  One of the cool things about Sheer Tints is that they are so translucent you really don’t need to be neat or accurate when you apply them.  Yet the finished product makes people go “hmmmm how did you do that?”

Spring Flowers for #NAILLINKUP

This is my design for the SPRING FLOWERS theme of the N.A.I.L. Linkup!  The colors I chose are a bit more intense than the usual spring pastels.  But then again, it doesn’t feel like spring yet in NY!  It was kinda nice out yesterday, but today is like brrrrr.

Nail art earrings and other stuff!

Remember when I showed you those little wooden pendants my dad made me?? Here they are pictured on the left.  IMG_1560Well, I finally painted them with nail polish!   I like to call them my nail art earrings. 🙂  I painted them using all Essie winter shearling colors and I also used a bunch of easy nail art techniques.

  • I painted them in three Essie colors
  • then used a dotting tool to do some dots on one side
  • used my MoYou stamping stamper and pro plate to decorate the other side
  • swept on some clear polish and placed a line of rhinestones
  • then I finished it with a coat of sally hansen topcoat

essie earringsIn case you are laughing at them, yeah I know.  They’re a little ‘busy’.  But in my defense, I wanted to try different nail art stuff on them … it’s my first nail polish & jewelry experiment!  They came out cool and it was a lot of crafty fun.  I def wanna do this again!  If you don’t have pendants like the ones I used then maybe you can find some earrings laying around that might work.  Or maybe the dollar store near you has some cheapo flat earrings that could use a fresh layer of nail polish!

This was a fun project for me, especially since I can’t paint my nails right now.  I am actually wearing some Incoco collage 3french manicure nail strips right now and I wanna see how long they last. I am loving them.  They look so great!  Here’s a sneak peek!  What a perfect french mani, right?  They are wearing really well.  No signs of chipping yet and I’m on day 6!  So in lieu of painting my nails for 6 days… I painted some earrings!  Oh, and I also made some diy nail decals using some of my cheeky and moyou stamping plates.  They came out so cute!  I made little yellow happy faces, multi-colored hearts, and little teddy bears!  Hopefully I can play with them soon.  I also have some news for my giveaways…..

It’s friday night !

Hey everybody !  Happy weekend!  I’m so glad it’s friday night…. woohooo!  I have been a little stressed lately and I thought I’d type up a spam post for fun.  To bring the blogging back to blogging.  How about a conscious stream of random nail stuff???????

I just got some Nicole by OPIs in the mail!  For free.  Well, sorta kinda.  I had to buy 8 boxes of Special K cereal to earn them.  They had a promo here where if you had 3 UPC codes from their cereal boxes you’d get the red polish.  But if you collect 8 UPC codes you get all three bottles (red, blue and pink).  I entered my 8 codes onto their website and then they mailed them right out to me!  I only had 2 Nicole by OPIs in my stash so I’m really glad to have 3 more.  I have well over 300 bottles of polish but I only owned 2 Nicoles?  I know, I don’t get it either.  Here’s the three colors I got:  Challenge Red-Y, Pros And Confidence, Be Ama-Zing!

Nice trio right??  Moving on to valentines day stuff….I was looking through my old pics and I found this cute photoshopped pic of an old valentines manicure.  I used regular stickers on my nails for this design.  The original post is here: Easy Valentines Day Nails.  Lookit my cute little squared off nails!  Awwws! They look so cute and funny compared to my current shape!

I have this MoYou London plate that I haven’t used yet and I wanted to show you! MoYou London sent it to me for review along with a pro plate and a scraper. It’s called Back to the 60’s – 01.  I love all the funky hippie designs on here (it’s so reminiscent of the artistic hippie town that I live in).  Since a lot of the designs on this plate are small and have blank spaces in them- they may be perfect for some diy decals!

The other two items I received for review are posted here.  I must say, the MoYou Large size stamper they sent me is literally the bomb, I use it exclusively now.  I never use my konad stamper anymore.  Someone recently commented on one of my posts that MoYou carries a new grey stamper.  It’s described as XL on their website so I guess it’s bigger than the one I’ve been using.  You can check out their three stampers here: MoYou London NAIL ART TOOLS.

Also, MoYou has been pumping out more new collections …it feels like every week now!  The most recent ones are SCI-FI and SCHOLAR.  They even carry jewelry findings so you can stamp onto jewelry and make your own wearable nail art!  Here’s the link for MoYou’s Stamping Jewellery.  I love this idea and I’ve been thinkin of making my own stamped jewelry now too!  My dad is a woodworker and when he has little scraps of wood sometimes he’ll make me pendants for earring n stuff.  He just surprised me with a pair in fact (see pic below), so I think I’ll give it a go with nail polish! I will def post the results.  OK, I feel extra Craftynail all of sudden!

Well,  that’s all folks.  Enjoy your weekend and talk soon!

I don’t feel like typing much today.  So here’s another pic!

I hope you have a great remainder of your weekend.  <wiping a tear>  Do you get sad on sunday nights too?  😦

On the bright side, the premier of Sherlock episode 2 is on Masterpiece Theater tonight. 🙂  Oh…. and I almost forgot!  I had a productive/busy weekend and still managed to set up a nail station for myself!  I used to have all my nail stuff located in one spot (well, maybe it spread out a lil bit)… and even though it was organized, I still I had no dedicated place to paint my nails.  Sometimes I’d be at the counter, other times the couch, or the computer desk.  But now I have my own well-lit work space!  It’s tucked away in a little corner of the hub of the house… so that means I won’t feel isolated or far away.  I look forward to painting many a nail there!

Essie Shearling Darling winter rose nails

Hey everyone! Do you remember a few weeks back when I was participating in a holiday nail art contest held by nailpolishcanada.com ? Well, thanks to all of your votes I won week 2 for my holiday underside mani!  Thank you so much to all my readers and also to Nail Polish Canada for the sweet prize pack!  I never won a nail contest before!! Here’s what they mailed me…

2 Enchanted Nail Polish – Hello New York & The Youth
Butter London 2 pc Double Take Ice Duo – Bluecoat Lacquer & Leccy Topcoat
China Glaze 3 pc Dash Of Dazzle Set
Zoya 6 pc Zenith Collection
Essie 6 pc Shearling Darling (Winter 2013) Collection
OPI 10 pc Take Ten Mini Set

I’d like to show you my Essie pics first since that was the collection that I’m really excited about. For today’s manicure I used the following four polishes from the Essie Winter 2013 Shearling Darling collection: Mind Your Mittens, Warm & Toasty Turtleneck, Shearling Darling, and Parka Perfect.

shearling darling creams_Fotor

Prior to this prize pack,  I only owned two bottles of Essie so getting the entire 6 piece winter 2013 Shearling Darling collection was really fun for me!  I wanted to do some nail art that incorporated all 6 colors but that manicure didn’t turn out very blog-worthy.  It was good for me to test out those polishes though- to see which ones are opaque enough for some nail stamping, and also to practice with the Essie brush.  I’m not used to applying Essie so the combination of the runny formula and the skinny brush kinda threw me for a loop.  The first mani came out really messy but I think I got the hang of it by the second manicure.  Slow, thin coats did the trick.  Here are the final blog-worthy nails:

For these nails I used the above-mentioned four polishes along with my MoYou London Pro Plate 04 for a romantic rosebud pattern.  It’s funny, it looks like I used one design for all my nails, but I actually used two different designs: one stamp imprints the roses, and the other stamp imprints color OUTSIDE the roses.  For the maroon nails it may appear like I stamped light colored roses over top of the dark color.  But really, the nail is painted the lighter color, and then I stamped the dark maroon over top.  This worked out well since dark colors stamp much better than light colors, but I still get the effect of light colored roses.  Does that explanation even make sense ? I hope someone out there sees what I mean. LOL

Do you notice how these nails coordinate with my blog-header?  That must be why I like them so much!  I’d also like to add that I’m happy to have 400% more Essies in my stash now!  Thanks nailpolishcanada- this collection is so warm and luscious!

Do you girls own any of this winter collection?

My new years nails- magnetic snakeskin

Happy New Year!!!  Here are my new years eve nails for the N.A.I.L. linkup! I went with a mix-match snake skin manicure.  I used two different magnetic polishes in this design and I also hid ‘2014’ in there as well. 🙂

nye 2013 snakeskin

GREEN NAILS- My green nails were painted with Sinfully Magnetic Snakeskin nail polish in a green shade called Force Field.  I applied one coat and let it dry.  Then I applied the second coat and then immediately held the included magnet over top.  The magnet reacted with the polish and created such an amazing criss-cross snakeskin effect (see my other post about Force Field here). This is probably my absolute favorite magnetic polish & magnet of all time!  I also applied some pearl-toned studs to these nails for a feminine sexy touch.

BLACK NAILS- These nails were painted with China Glaze Liquid Leather.  Then I stamped MoYou Pro 05 snakeskin design over half of these nails using a silver magnetic Orly polish called Paint on Electron.  I’m so glad that the silver stamped so well!  The puny Orly magnet that came with the polish really sucks…so I’m happy to find another use for Paint on Electron which didn’t even require a magnet.  *Another thing to note about stamping with magnetic polish- it didn’t smudge at all when I applied topcoat!

Oh and about the hidden ‘2014’-  I placed my studs strategically to represent the year 2014– I put 20 studs on my right hand and 14 studs on my left.  🙂  I also patterned my nails differently on each hand just for effect.

Do you think magnetic nail polish has a fun ‘party feel’ ?  I love it and I think it’s just perfect for the holidays. Plus, I did magnetic nails last new yrs eve… so I’m sorta keeping up with traditions by doing another one tonite.  These nails are also just in time to say goodbye to the SNAKE.  Au revoir 2013, year of the snake!  Bonjour 2014, year of the horse!

While we’re on the topic, I’d like to show you a pic of my new horse calendar for 2014.  I got it as a Christmas present from my uncle!  Isn’t it purty?

2014 year of the horse

I look forward to a new year!  See you in 2014!
