Copper Alloy

copper alloy metal nail polish

L.A. Girl Copper Alloy.  It’s part of their METAL collection.  Love the color… but not on me.  It’s just not my cup of tea.  I love orange in general.. but something about this exact shade of burnt shimmery orange- not my thing!  Maybe I prefer cool tones instead of warm.  IDK.  Everytime I glance down at my hands I’m like eckkk.  I know the pics make it look pretty….. but in real life it does not flatter me.  Or maybe I am just weird.

Do you like wearing this kinda color?

china glaze border mani

Here’s my last mani for the January N.A.I.L. linkup!  The week 4 theme is BORDER MANI.

I’m wearing a couple polishes from the China Glaze Happy Holiglaze 2013 collection.  It’s actually a three-pack from that collection called Dash of Dazzle.  I chose the two metallics of the bunch because OMG I love metallics lately!  But also, because the other one called Bells Will Be Blinging has bar glitter, and well, I’m not a huge fan.  Maybe some other time! china glaze border mani

First I applied one coat of So Blue Without You.  It’s so bright and vibrant!  Then I applied the gold polish called Mingle With Kringle.  So much gold foil goodness!  When I applied the gold I made sure never to touch the base or sides of my nail.  But I did pull the gold polish all the way to the tips of my nails (which makes the border look like a horseshoe), which isn’t a biggie… because then I just hand paint little strips of blue onto my tips to make the blue border reach all the way around my nails.  It’s actually done in no time at all- with no special tools required.  Just the bottle brushes.

This manicure is a little crazy-looking, huh?  It didn’t come out quite as expected.  I think the metallic finish blurs it so my border isn’t very crisp.  But it was super quick and it’s very eye-catching, so I can’t complain!

Since January is almost over that means the February Linkup themes will be coming out soon!  Keep your eyes peeled this weekend for the announcement!

In the meantime, here are the galleries of January nails…

AVON Brushed Metals

I got this polish from my AVON lady in December’13 on sale for $3.99.  It’s from the 2013 Brushed Metals collection and they don’t sell them on their website anymore.   But you never know…AVON may still have a few bottles kicking around so if you see them in the Outlet brochure you should snag this one up!  Because check it out…

The other colors in the collection look like textured pastels.  I may have grabbed the best one!  This one looks gold but AVON calls it Burnished Copper.   I love this color!  This is one coat.  Yup, ONE COAT!  I topcoated it and it’s almost smooth.  A little bumpy but I wouldn’t consider it a textured polish.  Isn’t it glimmery and gorgeous?

Snowflakes for N.A.I.L. Linkup

Hey everyone!  This nail art is for week 1 of the December Nail Art Ideas Linkup!  The theme is snowflakes….

♥ WHITE SNOWFLAKES- I stamped white Konad polish using my MoYou Festive 03 Plate.

♥ ACCENT NAIL-  The 3 maroon and beige snowflakes are a water slide decal, and then I placed rhinestones on top.

♥ Topcoat – 1 coat of Seche Vite

Brijit designed two beautiful widgets for the NAIL Linkup this month- a blue one and pink one!  Don’t they look sweet?  Which one is your fave?  I’m really groovin on the pink one!

#31DC2013- Metallic Nails

I’ve been participating in Chalkboard Nails’ 31 Day Challenge (31DC2013)… but so far I’ve only done every other day.  Normally I like to do a challenge full force and I try to do every single theme… but I’m also running Nail Art Ideas Linkup (NAIL) with Brijit’s Digits and Eeeek! Nail Polish! and tomorrow our SPORTS theme opens up.  So I hope you’ll all forgive me for only doing half of the 31 day challenge days.  😉  I don’t wanna over-do it and lose my spark!

Day 8 of the 31DC2013 is METALLIC and I’m wearing a Sally Hansen Lustre Shine polish called Gilt.  I guess it’s considered a metallic duochrome, but I don’t see too many flashes of color.  Sometimes it leans a little green or a little rose-gold, but mostly it’s just a bronzey gold shade.  I’m glad I got it on clearance for $2.00 because it dries so slow.  Even with seche vite it was still tacky and vulnerable to dings.  After my Lustre Shine was as dry as it would get, I started some nail art by painting a skinny black strip down each nail.  Then I built up the black at the top and bottom of my nails to form a curved shape.  It’s almost like a french mani on the bottom, a halfmoon on the top, with a line connecting them.  I dunno- it’s fun and futuristic looking!  I like to call it a ‘split mani’ and I sorta discovered it when I was working on my Missoni-inspired nails.  This is a design that’s relatively easy to do on both hands too Yippee!  I hope you like my quick n easy metallic split mani!  It sorta reminds me of an hourglass.  Maybe I could try one of those sometime. 🙂

#31DC2013- Green Nails

gold_mint

Here’s my GREEN mani for Chalkboard Nails 31 Day Challenge!  I painted my nails with two coats of Metallic Heels (gold) by Julie G and then hand-painted some green segments on the top and bottom of my nails.

The green theme for today was a great excuse to try my brand new mint polish from Five Below.  It’s a nice light green color called Honeydew by Fresh Paint.  I’ve been wanting a green like this forever.  Many of my greens are darker or have a tinge of blue and look sorta aqua…. so I think this green is a perfect addition to my stash!  Unfortunately, it’s not that great for nail art.  I applied it with a detail brush and it seemed to have a chalky formula.  It ended up looking goopy and brush-strokey.  Live and learn!  Next time I’ll use it as a base color instead of an accent color.  I made sure to really slather on the seche vite to help smooth it out.  🙂  But still, it’s pretty and I like the effect of the gold strip shining in between the green.  The two colors contrast and coordinate, all at the same time.

Day 26 Favorite Vacation- PDX

Phew I got this post in before the day was over!  The theme for day 26 of the OMD Challenge is FAVORITE VACATION and my fave has always been Portland Oregon!  My best friend Amie has lived there for about 10 yrs now and I usually make it out there at least once per year.  I always fly into Portland International Airport so the airline code PDX is engrained in my brain!  I’m always scouring the web for good prices to PDX.

Amie and I have done some fun stuff over the years during my vacays- ghost tours, seaside excursions, weddings, devouring mass quantities of meat (her hubbie’s a butcher)… but we usually have the most fun together just doing nuthin and hanging out!  Friendships like that are priceless, don’t you think!?  I have another trip to PDX scheduled for August.  A nice break from work, some Portland sunshine and some much-needed time with my BFF and her family (oh, and pugs too).  Can’t wait!

Here’s what I’m wearing- two coats of a Julie G gold polish called Metallic Heels, some studs from Claire’s Boutique and my black Sally Hansen Nail Art Pen.   It was nice and easy, which is perfect for a TGIF-kinda friday!

There’s only 5 days left of the challenge! The links will be open til Aug 5th for any last minute submissions… then we will pick our 4 random winners!  It’s pretty exciting!  From looking at the raffle numbers it looks like you’d have a good chance of winning too- especially if you’ve been participating everyday!  Good luck everyone!
