My new years nails- magnetic snakeskin

Happy New Year!!!  Here are my new years eve nails for the N.A.I.L. linkup! I went with a mix-match snake skin manicure.  I used two different magnetic polishes in this design and I also hid ‘2014’ in there as well. 🙂

GREEN NAILS- My green nails were painted with Sinfully Magnetic Snakeskin nail polish in a green shade called Force Field.  I applied one coat and let it dry.  Then I applied the second coat and then immediately held the included magnet over top.  The magnet reacted with the polish and created such an amazing criss-cross snakeskin effect (see my other post about Force Field here). This is probably my absolute favorite magnetic polish & magnet of all time!  I also applied some pearl-toned studs to these nails for a feminine sexy touch.

BLACK NAILS- These nails were painted with China Glaze Liquid Leather.  Then I stamped MoYou Pro 05 snakeskin design over half of these nails using a silver magnetic Orly polish called Paint on Electron.  I’m so glad that the silver stamped so well!  The puny Orly magnet that came with the polish really sucks…so I’m happy to find another use for Paint on Electron which didn’t even require a magnet.  *Another thing to note about stamping with magnetic polish- it didn’t smudge at all when I applied topcoat!

Oh and about the hidden ‘2014’-  I placed my studs strategically to represent the year 2014– I put 20 studs on my right hand and 14 studs on my left.  🙂  I also patterned my nails differently on each hand just for effect.

Do you think magnetic nail polish has a fun ‘party feel’ ?  I love it and I think it’s just perfect for the holidays. Plus, I did magnetic nails last new yrs eve… so I’m sorta keeping up with traditions by doing another one tonite.  These nails are also just in time to say goodbye to the SNAKE.  Au revoir 2013, year of the snake!  Bonjour 2014, year of the horse!

While we’re on the topic, I’d like to show you a pic of my new horse calendar for 2014.  I got it as a Christmas present from my uncle!  Isn’t it purty?

2014 year of the horse

I look forward to a new year!  See you in 2014!

Nail Art Ideas Linkup- Games and Apps Theme!

aces_spades_cards_nails

The third them of September’s Nail Art Ideas Linkup (NAIL) is Games & Apps.  What a fun theme!  There were a lot of things swirling through my mind: Dance Dance Revolution, Ghost Radar, Zuma Blitz, Scrabble, Angry Birds… the list goes on and on!  But there is one card game that I’ve been playing obsessively lately and it’s a Nook app called Aces Spades made by Concrete Software, Inc.  I’m not dissing Barnes & Noble or the Nook, but most of my Nook apps are a wee bit lame.  But this Spades game is just too fun!  It’s a nice basic version of four-player Spades, it’s glitch-less, and I love the color scheme and ‘feel’ of the app.  It almost looks a little gothic.  Here’s a couple screen shots of the game so you can see what I mean.

Check out my sexy partner Julian played by the computer!

I really like this blue, gold and purple color scheme.

For this nail art I’m wearing:

OPI Unfor-greta-bly Blue with some black sponged on top

♠ the yellow accents are Sinful Colors Pull Over with some Julie G Metallic Heels mixed in

♠ the purple accents were made with a magnetic polish called Houses of Parliament by Nails Inc.

I kinda love the trio of colors here!  And I’ve never used magnetic polish for an accent nail before.  I’m really happy with the result!  I’ll definitely have to try that again, especially since my big stash of magnetics are all sitting in a box unused!  So what do you think of my Spades nail art?  Did I capture the essence of this app at all?

Day 10 of OMD Challenge- Magnetic Nails

Hey everyone!  For DAY 10/METALLIC  of the Oh Mon Dieu! Challenge I thought I’d try some fun stuff with magnetic nail polishes.  I have a rather good selection of magnetic polishes to choose from.  I like to collect them because they’re a fun way to get a cool nail design without having to whip out special tools or techniques.

This mani is something new and different for me- I used two different magnetic polishes!  I painted one half of my nails with a green Sinful Colors called Sinfully Magnetic Force Field and used the snakeskin magnet that came with it.  Coolest magnet ever!  I love the snakeskin effect.  Then I painted the other half of my nails with a gorgeous blurple by L.A. Colors Magnetic called Electrostatic.  The la girl magnet is hidden in the cap and it wasn’t as impressive as the other brand’s.  This one created kitty-corner vertical stripes which aren’t that prominent -but the delicious purple color makes up for it. la_girl_magnetic_electrostatic

I like this double-magnetic look…and they dried fast too!  BONUS!

Let’s see what the other girls came up with for today’s theme…..

Houses of Parliament Magnetic Effect

nails-inc-magnetic-polish

Do you love magnetic polish as much as me? Here’s a swatch of nails inc. magnetic polish called Houses of Parliament.  The polish initially goes on a medium greyish purple and once the magnet hits it changes to dark purple.  It’s houses-of-parliamentkinda vampy and edgy and looks just as great in the shade as it does in bright lighting.  The magnet that’s built into the top was so strong that it actually pulled some of the polish up off of my nail- I quickly learned not to hold it too close!  I’ve reviewed another polish from this collection called The Strand which was a really pretty blue, but Houses of Parliament seems to have a different formula…

This one takes forever to dry.  Maybe it’s because my 2nd coat was thick, but the surface of my nails still felt tacky after an hour.  The polish also dried weird and had the tendency to shrink back or even rub off if you touched it.  I got some crazy tip wear right from the get-go!  And within 24 hrs I had A LOT of tip wear.  Oh well, this won’t prevent me from wearing Houses of Parliament again.  Magnetic polishes are fun for when you want an awesome-looking manicure without having to fuss.  To top it off- you’re pretty much guaranteed to get some compliments and/or questions about your magnetic nails!  🙂  And don’t we all love when people look at our nails?

The stars are out this new years eve!

Here’s a super quick post of my new years nails.  I used nails inc magnetic polish called The Strand.

I put a glitter star in the center of each magnetic burst!

I’ve included a shot of the package of glitter I purchased at Michael’s craft store.  Much more affordable than buying it at a beauty supply store.

$1.49 at a craft store!

Happy New Years everyone!  I’m heading out to celebrate! now.  See you in 2013!

Post-christmas excitement!

Of course Christmas is all about the birth of Jesus and spending time with loved ones.  But I can’t help but be super-excited about all of my nail polish gifts that I received from my family!  I feel like a little kid- I woke up this morning psyched to play with my toys!  Here’s a pic of the stash I received.  I don’t know what color to use first!
