#31DC2013 – Half Moons (in halloween colors)

As part of Chalkboard’s 31 day nail challenge I’ve got a funky halloween halfmoon design for you!

Now that fall is here I’ve been DYING to do some autumnal nail art- especially for halloween!!  Weeeee!!  I love halloween… and my blog is a great way for me to showcase my holiday spirit!  Halloween is all about orange and black, but my fave combo for the holiday is actually green and purple.  This mani is kinda crazy looking and perhaps a little fugly, but I don’t care!  I’ll wear pretty much anything on these nails- and I’ll love it too!  lol

What I’m wearing:

♥ one coat of Nailtiques #2

♥ two coats of Essence lime green called L.O.L.

♥ one coat of seche vite to make the green dry quickly

♥ then I used painters tape to create the crescent/halfmoon line

♥ then I applied one coat of Milani TEXTURE in Purple Streak and then peeled the tape off

This mani was quick and easy!!

Would you wear nails like these, or is the color scheme a little too ‘out there’ for you?

Day 16 of OMD Challenge- GumDrop Halfmoon

Day 16 is dedicated to RUFFIAN or HALFMOON manicures. I went with a halfmoon today.  I added some texture- I’m not tired of that trend yet!  I LOVE every single one of my textured polishes.  Well, on second thought- I wish my Godiva Pixie Dust wasn’t a three-coater, but I digress….

I’m wearing two coats of Orly Faint of Heart which is a grey cream.  Then I used some nail guide stickers to tape off my nails.  Then I applied two thin coats of Julie G Blueberry Fizz from their Frosted GumDrops collection.  What a pretty textured polish- I just love the baby blue shade and glitter!  I then added some rhinestone studs since those stickers made a weird chevron indent that was begging to be filled in with some pretties!  I like how it came out- the final result kinda reminds me of Cinderella’s dress for some reason. 🙂

In related news- I broke a nail in my office today.  Luckily it was on my ‘non-photographic’ hand.  Should I just keep that one shorter than the rest until it grows out?  I dunno- I’m still staring at it in disbelief!   Boohooie!  Unfortunately, no one in my life will care (oh wait, except for you Nancy 🙂 ).  Can I count on you ladies for support and empathy????

Thanks in advance!   xoxo

Purple Halfmoon Gradient

Hi everybody!  Hope your hump day is coming along nicely!

I have a pretty purple halfmoon to share with you today.  I am loving this manicure!  The contrast of the different purple shades is like WOW in real life! I hope I captured some of it’s WOW in my pics. 🙂

I started out with two coats of a medium purple called No Hard Feelings by Sally Hansen Hard as Nails.  I borrowed it from my mom since it was just so pretty and I don’t have a shade like this one.  I don’t know how Sally made this purple muted and bright all at once…I just love it!   When my purple base was dry (the next day hehe) I used some nail guide stickers to tape off my nail in preparation of a halfmoon design.  Then I used a makeup sponge to do a gradient with Sinful Colors Dream On and Revlon Charming.  When I removed my tape I was stunned at how vivid the Sinful Colors neon magenta came out.  Then after adding some glossy seche vite topcoat it really came to life!  I love how neons look so great on their own and then you topcoat them and they look even better!

This design is so simple, clean and cool looking.  I would love to try this with different color combos too.  Teals and greens would look so hot!

Masquerade Nails

masquerade_only_gold_for_me

No, I don’t have plans to go to a masquerade ball.  But if I did- these would be the nails to wear!  I did a halfmoon design using this lovely maroon polish called Masquerade Ball by Confetti.  I love this polish because it sorta reminds me of German-icure by OPI (which I don’t own so I’m happy to have this quasi-dupe!)  I left my nail bare under the halfmoon to get this cute ‘peekaboo’ look.  Peekaboo- here’s a little bit of skin!  In a way, it kinda reminds me of masquerades… where you only get a tiny peek of what the person looks like under their mask 🙂

To give the mani some more party-appeal I added some Sephora by OPI Only Gold For Me glitter topcoat. I haven’t tried this gold over a dark color before.  I think it looks lush!  Then I added a few gold studs to top it off.  For my accent finger I dug some of my gold glitter out of the sephora bottle and stuck them on with a dotting tool (using my DIY glequin technique).  I really like the accent nail with it’s extra flash of skin !

Check back to my blog later today!  Brijit and Eeeek and I will be posting all the details of our July nail art challenge!  We have pics of the prizes and you’ll find out the fun themes for all 31 days!   In case you are wondering about the prizes— prize winners will be selected at random.  We are not judgey!  But the more days you participate in July, the better your chance of winning the rafflecopter. I really hope we are able to gather some bloggers from other platforms too.  The more, the merrier!  The three of us are so excited and we hope you join our challenge.  We have been working on this for months and the anticipation is killing us!!  I’m so ready for it to be July.  I can’t wait for the nail art extravaganza to begin!  Stay tuned for all the deets!!
