I was in the mood for playful nails so I dug into my stash of nail decals for something cutesy. A while ago I had a giveaway that went bad because the company that sponsored it (moon sugar decals) never mailed my winner their prize. But since then, the company got a new guy running the show and he made it right by sending the winner her goodies months after the fact. He also sent me a bunch of decals to sample. Some of which are these cute owl designs. I paired them underneath a variety of nail polish colors to get this cool mix n match look….
I did the other hand a little different just for fun. I think the yellow nails are my faves.
And on each hand I added a polka dotted heart accent nail using Incoco brand’s ‘Perfect Accents‘ in BE MINE. Perfect Accents are small and inexpensive packs that contain only a few nail appliques so you can achieve a quick and easy accent nail!
I’m glad I did these nails when I did because the very next day I had my surprise bridal shower. I had no idea! I never saw it coming. I’m thankful I wasn’t wearing bare nails for that, especially since I was just coming from the gym and had no makeup on. At least my nails looked good! I’ll be walking down the aisle very soon (11 days to be exact), that’s why I’m calling this design OWL ALWAYS LOVE YOU. Til death do us part, my love! xoxo
It took me around two hrs just to get the pics ready to post. Ughh- I have been having mega computer problems with the new desktop I bought. I purposely got windows 7 on it, even though at the time win8 was brand new. Well, that pc would not connect to the internet. It was so frustrating!!! We tried every troubleshooting thing possible, and even shipped the pc back to HP twice, yup, TWICE, and they kept sending it back unfixed. WTF! After arguing with them for months we finally got a newer desktop the other day, which works!!!!!!!!! Holy crap. The internet. Thank God. I feel bad, because I know they will probably re-furbish it and sell it to some other poor soul who will never be able to get it connected to the web either. Regardless, I’m glad that lemon is out of our hands. But now, I’m having a hell of a time adjusting to windows 8 on the new machine. Navigation is weird and I hate the whole app thing. Many programs try to open as apps and the functionality is limited and sucky. I know what I want to do, but don’t know what to click to make it happen. I had to watch a damn youtube video the other nite just to figure out how to shut the desktop down! Hopefully I can get the hang of it. If you have any windows 8 tips, please let me know!
Back to the nail art….I’m wearing a grey holo as my base color. It’s called Weng Weng from Bobbie brand- I will have to post swatches soon since it really deserves it’s own 5 minutes of fame. Then I made some diy birdcage decals using white konad polish and BM-407 stamping plate. I usually make my decals on plastic baggies, but this time I left the stamp right on my MoYou stamper, then colored the white birdcage in with a detail brush and Essie Butler Please. Then I covered the stamp with seche vite. It dried pretty quick, then I peeled it off the stamper and applied it to my grey nail. Awesome. I will definitely be doing this again. I feel a tutorial coming on. Some of my other nails are decorated with some blue rhinestones and one of my favorite glitter toppers- Lights Of Emerald City by OPI.
You should try a bird themed manicure too! Here are the other nails from the april linkup–
Wait, sugar skulls and alien heads? YUP! These kinds of noggins don’t normally go together… but these two designs were on the same bundle monster stamping plate… so why not?
These images you see on my nails are actually little diy decals that I made with nail polish. They are so cute I’m glad I finally got a chance to wear them! But it’s been two weeks since I made them (original post here)… and they got a little brittle. Plus, my house is cold and that seems to make them even more brittle. So I tried to warm them up before I applied them to make them more pliable. I have one of those neck warmer things that you microwave, so I set my decals on that for a minute so they’d be more bendy. That actually did help in getting them to fit the curve of my nail better. Oh, and two coats of seche topcoat helped too. 🙂 I also added studs at the end by sticking them into my topcoat while it dried. The studs really made the mani come together. Before studs- meh. After studs- wicked!
Also, I don’t want to neglect mentioning my awesome base colors. Under my decals I’m wearing two different AVON cosmic collection nail polishes. The blue is called Celestial and the yellow is called Starlight and they’re both scattered holos. I swatched these cosmics in the past (here) and I needed three coats. But now that my nails are shorter, they only needed two coats. Or maybe the polish thickened a little over time? I dunno, but it works for me!
I hope you like my nails! Talk to ya soon! Next time you hear from me we’ll be talking about the April prompts for the #NAILLINKUP. 😀
If you are a regular reader of my blog you’ll see that I offer my opinion on a lot of nail products. Although I have a very happy-go-lucky approach to blogging and many of my posts are upbeat… you need to know that I take my reviews and recommendations very seriously. That’s why I need to share with you the recent issues that I’ve had with Moon Sugar Decals. It pains me to criticize a small business. But I have to write this post to inform my readers of what’s been going on.
Last month I hosted a water slide decal giveaway along with Moon Sugar Decals <original post here>. The company offered a $20 gift certificate to my randomly selected winner. I figured this was a great opportunity for my readers to experience these decals that I’ve always had good luck with. I did not go into this giveaway agreement blindly either- I have ordered from them twice and also reviewed their products twice and have communicated with their rep a bunch of times. I’ve always had positive experiences with this company UNTIL…
I picked the winner of my giveaway and she used the $20 gift certificate code to purchase products on their website. She ended up paying out of pocket for part of the order as the gift cert didn’t cover all the charges. However, she never received her order that she placed roughly 5 weeks ago. She was communicating with them via email for a while… until they stopped responding. When I heard of the issue I tried to touch base several times, but no luck. Neither my winner or I have heard from them and it’s been weeks. I waited a bit before I typed this because I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt.. there could’ve been an emergency, or vacation, or any number of things. But enough time has passed that I believe this is a lost cause. My winner never received the products she was promised and luckily her credit card company was able to re-imburse her card for the charges she made on February 11th.
I would like to apologize to my winner. I feel horrible that I was involved in this giant pile of disappointment and frustration. I’m sorry that I wasn’t able to get her the decals she won but I’m glad her credit card company was able to reverse the charges. I would also like to apologize to everyone who entered my raffle and got their hopes up wishing they would win my giveaway. Because now I know, there is no prize.
I needed to get this out in the open since I have referenced their products several times on my blog. Previously, I was happy with their quality of product and level of customer service. But I will not be recommending them any longer. I know that my readers look to me for advice on products and the opinions that I voice may impact others’ choices. That’s why I vow to always tell the truth, nothing but the truth, so help me God. So there ya have it!
Happy St. Patrick’s Day! I know I’m getting older because I now associate this holiday with eating instead of drinking. Yup, a free corned beef dinner at mom and dads sounds better than a crowded bar. I live in a college town and it’s spring break right now so most of the students are gone. If I went out, I would probably feel at home since the places would be filled with my fellow ‘townies’ instead of young’ens. But, it’s likely I’ll eat a nice family dinner, do my 30 day ab challenge exercises and call it a night. OMG, I have to say… my ab challenge is getting so hard! Here’s what I have to do. I’m up to 75 situps, 100 crunches, 42 lower ab/leg raises and 65 seconds of plank today. Phew! I have to break it up into two workouts per day now… cuz 75 situps at once is a killer! Enough whining! Let’s look at my st patrick’s day nails…
I’m wearing AVON Don’t be Jaded as my base color. Yes, I wore it yesterday too for my other st paddys design. I’ve noticed a weird pattern that I follow- if I get a new cream polish I like to wear it a few times right away. It kinda makes me feel bad if I get a lovely new polish, only try it once, then put it on a shelf and forget about it. I like to cherish my new bottles and use them a lot so they know they are loved. If inanimate objects have feelings I like to think that my polish bottles are happy and feel appreciated. 🙂 Weird? Yes, but that’s why you like me!
I also sponged some army green Ulta nail polish on my tips too, but you probably can’t tell since the colors blend well together. Then I added a coat of a Pretty Woman glitter topper. I’ve never tried Pretty Woman brand before. I picked it up at Rite Aid recently and I think the name of this one is GREEN. Very original huh? 🙂 I like that there’s a variety of glitter sizes in there… glitters like that tend to spread well for me. I only needed one coat and I got some nice even glitter coverage with it.
I also decorated my ring fingers as accent nails. Maybe you recognize my clovers ? They are some of the diy decals that I hand-painted over the weekend in this post. I stuck my clover decals on and then slathered some Seche Vite topcoat over top. Like always, I love the the nice smooth finish and quick-dry shine that I get from my bff Seche!
Do your nail polishes have feelings too? Or is it only mine?
I haven’t changed my nail design in 4 days, which is a pretty long time for me. Partly because I love my current nude/neon leopard nails. But also because I’ve been getting my daily nail art fix from making diy decals. I had some sugar skull cravings so I tried out my new Bundle Monster 413 plate and made some fun skull stickers!
I peeled the blue plastic film off my bundle monster plate (BM-413) to find that it had a few big (but not deep) scratches on it. Not sure what’s up with that or how that happened. I used black konad polish and stamped some of the skull designs onto a plastic baggie. Some of the lines in the etchings were very fine/skinny so the polish kept sticking to my Moyou squishy stamper instead of transferring off onto the baggie. I thought maybe because the bag wasn’t sticky enough, so I tried it on different surfaces but I had the same issue. That woulda bugged me if I messed them up on freshly manicured nails, but since it was on a plastic baggie I didn’t care that much. Here’s what my decals looked like after I stamped them, painted them in, and covered them with Revlon quick dry topcoat.
You can see several skulls didn’t stamp well so I didn’t paint those ones in. I also hand-painted some shamrocks too and I filled them in with a sparkly green Sephora Formula X called Mr. Positivity. I might use those shamrocks in my next March N.A.I.L. design for the St. Patty’s Day theme. You can see I also tried to hand-paint a pint glass of beer. I thought it would be cool to have green beer on my nails. I dunno… the pint glass wasn’t looking too good, so I didn’t bother painting it in with green. LOL
I also want to show you the water slide decals that I won from Nail A College Dropout‘s recent giveaway! When I saw these Beyoncé decals I knew I had to have them! I always say that in my next life I want to come back as Beyoncé! She’s so gorgeous and I wish I could dance like her. And that jelly!!! But anyway…… lucky me- I won the giveaway! Here’s what I got, including dope eyes and these crazy twerk decals with big booties on ’em. IDK I probably shouldn’t wear these to the office, huh?
Hope you’re having a great weekend and that you get to do something fun or creative! Like maybe some St Patty’s nails! The weather is a little warmer here in NY but the snow has not melted yet. It’ll get cold again tomorrow so I will probably stay in and paint my nails! What else is new ? 🙂 Ciao my bellas!
Yesterday’s blue crackle manicure was a lot of fun for me to wear and I loved it! So I took it off and did another. (Yup, this only makes sense to those of us who are obsessed. Because a normal person would KEEP their manicure on if they loved it.) But, I digress…..
Two manicures in a row using the same blue polish? That’s right! Out of all my ‘special’ nail polishes, this previously-untried electric blue crackle is a surprise favorite. I love when a nail polish comes outta nowhere and knocks your socks off!
This time I started with a hot pink base color. This is hot pink is hotter than hot and I love it. It’s Zoya Ali. Then I added my crackle- Electric Blue Blasted from Sephora by OPI. Except for my 2 ring finger accent nails which I painted off-white using OPI My Vampire is Buff. Then I added a butterfly wing diy decal that I made. How did I make the decal? I used my MoYou Pro stamping plate and… ummmm… well, I’m sure I’ve explained it a bunch of times before! I really should just do a tutorial so I can just insert da link ! For now- here’s Indian Ocean Polish’s tutorial which is great!
Here’s a side by side comparison of yesterday’s and today’s blasted nails. One blue nail polish, two looks. It’s funny that the pics came out almost identical and I didn’t plan it. Which do you like better- the orange or pink mani? I’m not the biggest fan of how mix-match manis look on me sometimes… so I’m leaning towards the orange. But dang, that hot pink!!! What do you think?
