Size Comparison of Top Stamping Plates

I love using stamping plates for nail designs… but there’s a lot of brands out there to choose from.  When I’m on the market for a new plate my main question is how big are their designs? It’s hard to locate sizing information online since most product descriptions do not include dimensions.  So I’ve put together a nice little comparison of four top brands: Konad, Cheeky, Bundle Monster and Mash!stamping_plates_comparison

My nails are relatively long so I’m always looking for plates with long designs.  Some of you may have wide nails and the width of each stamp may be important to you.  So I’ve included the dimensions (in millimeters) on each photo below.   All dimensions are listed as width times length (W x L).  Keep in mind that brands may change their plates over time so I’ve included the specific plate names/model numbers for your reference.  Let’s get to the comparison!

KONAD↑ To my surprise, Konad has the smallest designs of all four plates- both in width and length!  These stamps generally cover most of my other nails if I position them carefully, but you can see it doesn’t cover much of my thumb!  Something else I noticed about Konad is that their sizing may not be consistent.   Although most of them are sized like the one in my photo, one my other plates has a full-nail design that’s even shorter than this one.  Konad was the first brand of stamping products I used when I first started getting into nail art, but now that I line them up and compare- Konad doesn’t really impress me!

CHEEKY ↑  Cheeky plates have big designs!   Something to note is that they are shaped with a curve on one end for french manicures or halfmoons.  If you use it for a halfmoon then you’d be able to take advantage of more of its length, which is 20mm.  That’s really long!  But if you want to use it as a full-nail stamp then you’d only have 17mm of length to work with.  But still, that’s really good!  (The photo above was used as a full-nail stamp and it almost covered the length of my thumb.)  I also want to note that Cheeky plates have wider designs than the other three brands.  I heard they make jumbo-sized plates too, but I don’t own any of them.

BUNDLE MONSTER ↑ Bundle Monster designs are relatively big.  They’re larger than Konad but a tad smaller than Cheeky.  I have however seen BM plates that have smaller designs than this one.  So this brand may not be consistent with sizing either.  Also, I think that perhaps the BM plates aren’t etched very deeply?  Because the stamp in this photo came out kind of faint.  I dunno- they’re not my fave.

MASH ↑ Mash plates are relatively small.  They’re only one step up from Konad.  This was my first time using a Mash plate and it works ok, not much to say here really!

MY PICK: My top pick is Cheeky!  I do have a bit more cleanup when I use Cheeky plates since their designs are wide, but I like their length.  And it’s cool that they give you the flexibility for frenchies or halfmoons!  I haven’t tried them that way yet since I’m afraid they’ll come out crooked,  but it’s nice to have that option!  Also, the whole metal plate itself is larger than the other three brands.  You can see in my first photo that the Cheeky plate looks giant next to the other ones!  This Cheeky plate was part of a summer 2012 collection, but I hope all of their plates are this big.  When it comes to stamping, bigger is always better, don’t you think?

So what do you think of this comparison and was it helpful for you?  What’s your experience with stamping?

Would You Rather- TAG!

OH HAI EVERYONE!  I’m writing from Oregon right now!  Been looking forward to my vacation ALL summer!  I’m so thankful to have a week to unwind and chillax with my BFF.  And I won’t even think about Financial Aid once (well, except for just now).  LOL  Plus, I gain 3 hrs!  It would be 4 in the afternoon at home, but it’s only 1pm here!  That means I can really take advantage of my night owl tendencies!

You ready for a fun TAG?  BEAUTYFITMOM’S BLOG tagged me in a beauty version of WOULD YOU RATHER?  You can see her answers here….  she’s a beauty blogger so you may find her answers more interesting than mine lol!  But here’s what I’ve got for ya!

1. Would you rather lose all your mascaras, eyeliners, lipsticks and lip glosses or lose all of your palettes and eyeshadows?  I would rather lose my eyeshadows!  Just the thought of giving up mascara makes me question my whole future existence.  My lashes are puny…so mascara is a must-have for me.  I’ve been known to stash it everywhere I turn.  My purse, desk, bathroom, kitchen cupboard…there’s no shortage of mascara for me!

2. Would you rather chop off all your hair or never be able to cut it again?  That’s the easiest question for me to answer!  NEVER BE ABLE TO CUT IT AGAIN.  As it is, I rarely cut my hair.  My last haircut was in October 2012.  My hair is straight and shiny so it’s easy to maintain without much styling.  It grows.. I wash/condition it, and then brush it.  That’s pretty much my hair routine!

3. Would you rather have a coral cheek or a pink cheek? I never wear blush because my cheeks are kinda naturally rosy.  But if I bought a blush it would probably be pinkish or maybe mauve.

4. If you had $1000 to spend, would you rather buy clothes or makeup? Clothes! I don’t buy myself much clothes and I could definitely use a wardrobe makeover!

5. Would you rather apply lipstick as eyeliner or eyeliner as lipstick? Eyeliner as lipstick.  I’ve tried lipstick as eyeliner- but only when I want my eyes to look bloodshot for a halloween costume!

6. Would you rather only shop at MAC or Sephora?  I’ve never been to MAC so I guess I’d pick Sephora!

7. Would you rather only use one eyeshadow color or one lip color for the rest of your life?  This one’s a toss-up… but I guess I’d be okay with wearing only one eyeshadow for the rest of my life.  As long as the color is neutral and flattering I could always change my look by using different shades of lipstick!

8. Would you rather wear winter clothes in the summer or summer clothes in winter? The last thing I’d wanna do is feel hotter in the summer…. so I’d prefer summer clothes in winter.  If it’s cold out I could always add a scarf and boots!

9. Would you rather have dark nails or bright nails all year round? Bright!  I love dark nails… but sometimes they make my nails look too vampy, especially if they are long at the time.  Bright nails are always fun for me!

10. Would you rather give up your favorite lip product or your favorite eye product?  Lip product.  My lips are always chapped and sometime lipstick makes them worse… so I guess bare lipped would be okay for me.

11. Would you rather only be able to wear your hair in a ponytail or a messy bun?
I always wear a messy bun at home.  But outside the home I prefer ponytail so you can see my long mane. 🙂  So I’d prefer PONY.

12. Would you rather never be able to paint your nails again or never use lip gloss?  haha Does Craftynail even need to answer this one?  I could never survive without painting my nails- it’s my own form of mental-health therapy.

13. Would you rather shave your eyebrows and have none at all or Sharpie them in everyday? Gah!  I would look bad without brows.  I’d pull out the sharpie everyday.  No one said I couldn’t use a tan-colored sharpie 😉
14. Would you rather live without makeup or nailpolish?  Hmm… on a daily basis I could live without makeup…but if I had to go to a special event like a wedding or something- I’d really want my makeup back!  I don’t know man!  This is too hard!  But I’d hafta go without nail polish.  I  can’t believe it’s come down to this.  I hope the nail polish gods forgive me.

I tag everyone who wants answer the questions too!  So feel free to join this tag.  I’d also love to tag Elise from MAIDEN AUNT ADVICE!

Talk to you all soon!  Hopefully my next post will be a HAUL POST!  Can’t wait to hit up the local Ulta in Gresham, Oregon!  I even brought some bubble wrap so I can safely pack everything in my suitcase for the flight home.  When it comes to nail stuff, this girl is prepared!  See ya!

Nail Art Ideas Linkup (NAIL)- Sea Theme

Today is my official last day at work before my vacation!  Yesss!!!  I need a holiday so bad after such a busy summer at work.  As far as my blog goes- I really should’ve planned this better…I could’ve maybe had some nice guest posts lined up while I’m away.  But I’m afraid I’ve been busy and didn’t get a chance to plan too far ahead.  I guess lately I’ve been a blog-as-ya-go kinda girl!  But I still plan to post while I’m away.   They have the internet in Oregon, right? 😀 I don’t think I’ll bring any nail polish with me for my trip … that way I can just buy more while I’m there, naturally.  I really want to hit up an Ulta Store since I don’t have one near my house!

Anyhooo…Let’s check out my manicure today!  Here’s my SEA-THEMED design for the Nail Art ideas Linkup (NAIL).

I made some cute blue waves over a white base coat.  I used a detail brush and 7 different blue polishes.  I planned to make every wave strip a different color- but I really love Orly Sweet Peacock so I used that one twice (that’s the color on my tips)!  The waves were super easy to paint because you don’t have to be perfect… but dang!!! This one took a long time.  I have no idea how long but I feel like I have eye strain and I need to lay down!  hahaha  There are 8 waves on each nail… times 10 nails… we’re talking 80 waves here!  Phew.

I hope to see more SEA designs coming up for August’s NAIL!  If you want to post a pic of your sea-inspired mani you have til August 18th!  Here’s the link:

Bold Heart Nail Art

Hey everyone!  I want to show you my heart nails that I’ve been wearing for a couple of days now…

They’re so fun to wear because the hearts are kinda pointy at the ends!  When I wave my hands around it’s like, ‘come here… lemme pierce your soul with my spiked love talons”!  Ok, well not quite that extreme.. but when you see all ten of them in real life they look kinda cute and fierce. 🙂  Here’s what I’m wearing-

Sally Hansen Maximum Growth – one coat

L.A. Girl French Manicure in Pink Nude – one coat

♥ hand-painted hearts using NYC Black Lace Creme – with a detail brush

♥ center of hearts filled in with AVON Sweet Pea Dream – using the bottle brush

♥ french tips dotted on with NYC French White Tip – with a dotting tool

I’ve really enjoyed this manicure- but it’s time to say goodbye.  Gotta work on my design for the SEA theme of Nail Art Ideas Linkup!  And don’t forget- you still have a few days to vote for your favorite nail genius of the week from last week’s SUN manicures!  It allows you to vote three times…here’s the link:

Kaboom Nails

Today I’m showing you a glitter polish that I got at Walmart a few months back.  It’s called Kaboom by Salon Perfectkaboom_salon_perfect_glitter

I started with a coat of Nail Envy and then a nice opaque coat of light blue called Take Me To Your Chateau by Color Club.  Then I applied my Kaboom glitter topper which has very tiny matte glitters in green and neon yellow.  I expected the glitter to spread better since the pieces are so small, but I had to do a second coat to eliminate bald spots around the corners of my nails.  It dries kinda bumpy and my one VERY thick coat of seche vite didn’t quite smooth it enough.  I skipped the glitter on my accent nail and instead I hand painted a chevron tip with Orly Gumdrop (using the bottle brush that came with it).  Then I made ten dots of yellow using AVON Inspire.  I think it came out cool.

As far as Salon Perfect nail polish goes- the bottle says ‘Professional Nail Lacquer’.  Well, I don’t know about all that!  I bought two bottles that day, and the first one I tried chipped like crazy (it was a neon color called Flamingo Flair). Then, today’s Kaboom had a defective slanted brush.  Instead of being straight or round… the brush tip was angled which made application difficult.  I’m not too impressed.  For $3.98 I think I can find a better quality polish.  Even still, I’m not completely disappointed with my purchase.  The look of this matte glitter is unique to my stash…so at least there’s that!  Here’s a closeup of Kaboom.↓

UPDATE!!!!!!!!!!  This nail polish started lifting off my nail within 8 hours of wear.  So, now I can positively say that this brand of nail polish really falls short.  The glitter just peeled right off in big sheets.  The accent nails without the Salon Perfect were just fine and had no peeling.  But there’s something in the Salon Perfect formula that just makes the polish lift right off my nails!!  I have since found my walmart receipt and I will be returning both bottles.  Good thing for their 90 day return policy!

Have you tried any polishes that disappointed you big time??  Most polishes are comparable in quality- it’s rare to find one that stinks this bad!

N.A.I.L. Theme 1 – SUN :

Now I’ll share my sun-inspired manicure!  I’ve been in the mood for something dark and edgy so here’s what I came up with.  I’m calling it my abstract solar design……

I’m wearing three coats of Zoya Paz which is an electric orange cream.  It was funny, the first coat was very opaque and I was like WOW this will be great as a two-coater, but strangely the second coat looked almost the same as one coat did!  So I ended up doing three.  Then I hand-painted a black abstract solar burst shape on my tips… and added some black studs for visual interest.  I painted my other nails straight black using wet n wild Ebony Hates Chris.

If you’re interested in doing a sun manicure on your blog, facebook instagram, etc you have til Aug 11th to submit your link.  When the links close we’ll open up the vote and you can pick your nail genius of the week.  FUN !
